The Guards Division

This walk is a follow on from the `Road to Ginchy` tour. It concentrates on the September 1916 period of the Somme Battle.  We start by discussing the capture of Ginchy and the VCs awarded in the vicinity.

We also take a close look at the 15 September attack and the first use of the tank in battle.  Your local guide will explain about the build up to the attack and the action itself, all from excellent view points.

Utilising their own words from published sources you will hear stories of the battle from the men involved.  The walk continues on towards Lesboeufs where, using reports from the 3rd Guards Brigade during their attack on Lesboeufs as part of the larger Battle of Morval we follow the route of this successful attack.

Your experienced guide will also discuss with you some of the general tactics used by the British and Germans soldiers at this stage of the 1916 Somme Battle.  Our last visit on the walk is the Guards Cemetery near Lesboeufs where we pay our respects to some of the Guardsmen that fought and died during September 1916.

Our ‘The Guards Division’ Somme walking tour starts at £150.
