The Road to Ginchy

The “Road to Ginchy” walk studies the series of events after the capture of Montauban on 1 July 1916. We will also look at the opening day of battle and the preparation for the offensive.

We then follow the route of the British attacks towards Guillemont and Ginchy, including the seven Victoria Crosses that were gained along the way.

The route takes us from Montauban, through Bernafay and Trônes Woods, and into Guillemont and beyond.  We will discuss many subjects on the way including the role of the R.F.C., casualty evacuation and the life of the soldiers in general.

Our ‘The Road to Ginchy’ Somme walking tour starts at £150.
